本套《福尔摩斯探案集》（原版插图纪念版）从《福尔摩斯》的"正典"中精选出最经典的2个长篇和25个短篇小说，并选用了近300幅小说初次发表时所用的、最为后世所认同的经典插图。其中第一册包含《血字的研究》与《巴斯克维尔猎犬》两个长篇，分别展现了故事起源和作者本人最满意的杰作；第二册为《冒险史》《回忆录》中最著名的短篇，也是福尔摩斯故事中最广为人知的部分；第三册则将《归来记》《退场记》《新探案》中的精华收揽其中，更加神秘莫测的案件就在这里发生。《福尔摩斯》的主要插图作者为英国艺术家、插图家西德尼·佩吉特，他绘制的福尔摩斯插图与柯南·道尔创作的福尔摩斯形象相辅相成，已经成为这部文学巨著不可分割的一部分。阿瑟·柯南·道尔(1859—1930)，英国杰出的小说家、剧作家，被誉为"侦探小说之父"。他毕业于爱丁堡医科大学，曾行医10余年，在业余时间创作侦探小说，并于1887年发表了首部以福尔摩斯为主角的小说《血字的研究》。此后，他专门从事侦探小说创作，每一部作品几乎都是一发表就获得巨大成功。时至今日，他创作的《福尔摩斯》仍然风靡全球，位居全球最畅销书之列，并被公认为侦探小说中的"圣经"。(The Detective Stories of Sherlock Holmes (Original Illustrated Memorial Edition) selects the most classic 2 novels and 25 short stories from the "Canon" with close to 300 most recognized classic illustrations from the first editions. The 1st volume includes novels A Study in Scarlet and The Hound of the Baskervilles which explain the origin of the story and constitute the author's most favorite part respectively; the 2nd volume are the most well known short pieces from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, which are also the most widely read; the 3rd chapter brings together the best of stories from The Return of Sherlock Holmes, His Last Bow and The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes with even more mysteries criminal cases. The illustrations were mainly drawn by British artist and inllustrator Sidney Paget, which bring out the best of one another with the character Holmes and have become an inseparable part of this literary masterpiece. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was a distinguished British novelist, playwright and "Father of Detective Fiction". He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School and practiced as a doctor for 10 years while writing detective novels in spare time. In 1887 he published the first novel with Holmes as the protagonist, A Study in Scarlet. Later he became a full time writer dedicated to writing detective stories. Almost all works became instant success once published.
